Mississippi Burning (1988) Blistering account of FBI investigation into murder of Civil Rights workers in 1960s South, sees cynical local boy Gene Hackman dig out racist Klan poison for ethical Willem Dafoe to prosecute. With an anger that reverberates, blunt, visceral storytelling creates combustible atmosphere.

All The Old Knives (2022) Confidently told and performed, intriguing spy drama eventually lacks spark in verbal sparring, as former lovers Thandiwe Newton and Chris Evans meet to unwind reality behind terrorist attack. Rather than building tension, time shifts accentuate frustration.

Back To The Future II (1989) Lively reimagining and twisting of original film's plot propels Michael J Fox into future as well as past to rectify family destiny and space-time continuum, peppering action and comedy with fluid VFX. Technique tends to dominate coherence, though spirited cast sustain energy.

Knights Of The Round Table (1953) Colorful, expansive production provides lush veneer to prosaic rendering of Arthurian legend, with Mel Ferrer's idealistic king facing tragedy of Ava Gardner's attraction for Robert Taylor's Lancelot. Miklós Rózsa provides rich, driving score.

American Underdog (2021) Elevated by appealing performances from aspiring quarterback Zachary Levi and grounded wife Anna Paquin, as well as potently staged sports action, true life against-the-odds story is effectively realized. Pointedly uplifting, structure follows expected beats.

Forsaken (2015) Effective cast and solid production only highlight deficiencies of clean redemption tale that borrows without revitalizing as sour Kiefer Sunderland confronts his violent reputation on returns to pacifist father Donald Sutherland and corrupt hometown. Lacking thematic intensity and flatly staged.

Cocaine Bear (2023) Wildly comic and gory, as titular wild animal embarks on deadly rampage to feed drug habit after smuggler loses shipment in forest. For the most part, high energy overcomes messy lack of story and uneven performances, until third act unravels with deadening lack of jeopardy.
