The Killer (2023) Gorgeously textured and detailed, icy thriller defines psychology and technique of assassin Michael Fassbender before revealing his controlled rage as he becomes the target. Sly humor and precise style elevates violent action, though surfeit of voice over and unflinching approach is suffocating.

A Tourist's Guide To Love (2023) After unexpected relationship pause, practical travel executive Rachel Leigh Cook escapes to Vietnam to pose as tourist while evaluating local tour company. Evocative locations eventually deliver beyond initial travelogue stylings with pleasingly familiar romantic and character realization.

Murder Mystery (2019) Anonymously told and hazily developed, loose narrative relies on comic charms of Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler as bickering New York couple caught up in European murders amid plush locations. Breezy sequences remain easily digestible rather than memorable.

Happiest Season (2020) Stellar cast enliven unremarkable characters in enjoyably standard Christmas tale. Visiting persuasive Mackenzie Davis' conservative parents, reluctant Kristen Stewart agrees to hide their romantic relationship, until revelations spark changes for entire family. Comfortable comic spirit.

Indeurim (In Dream) (2023) Intriguing set up and blunt style maintain initial interest as struggling artist See Hyo-rim finds her ability to enter people's dreams soured when she encounters manipulative serial killer Oh Ji-ho. Derivative violence and grisly sound effects an uneasy fit with increasingly confusing plot.

Tides (2021) Intense visuals forge bracing dystopian future as astronaut Nora Arnezeder crash lands on Earth to discover if outer space colony can now return. Themes of social injustice and motherhood jostle with bursts of action amid grungy design, as story eventually runs out of steam.

Wicker Park (2004) Confronting style of overlapping images feeds fractured narrative that unravels same events from different perspectives, yet at heart remains love story between Diane Kruger and Josh Hartnett complicated by jealous Rose Byrne. Despite intense performances, superficial gloss rather than consuming passion.

A Family Affair (2024) Ambitiously self-involved Joey King's job as personal assistant to demanding superstar Zac Efron becomes more complicated when he starts affair with her mother, poised Nicole Kidman. Routine comedy and family life lessons come alive with alert Kathy Bates.
