We Have Always Lived In The Castle (2017) Precisely conceived tale of enclosed sisters Taissa Farmiga and Alexandra Daddario facing intrusion of cousin Sebastian Stan chasing their decaying wealth, remains intriguing and unnerving. Teetering madness and building threat of suspicious locals leads to fiery if not cathartic conclusion.

Look Both Ways (2022) On eve on leaving college, creative and ambitious Lilli Reinhart takes pregnancy test, with parallel story strands depending on result. Agreeably produced and performed, emotions skim the surface as fuzzy moral revolves on trusting instincts to achieve personal contentment.

Mothers' Instinct (2024) Enticing build up sees darkness gnaw at 1960s suburban lives of Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway when latter's son dies and former suspects she is being blamed. Wicked potential undermined by distracting stylistic choices and undecided mood, stranding attentive performers.

Creed (2015) Gutsy, energizing boxing drama has reluctant Sylvester Stallone's iconic Rocky persuaded to train raw Michael B Jordan, son of his late rival and friend. Without trying to reinvent past film series and adhering to solid story beats, boxing sequences deliver required visceral thrills.

Creed II (2018) Solid sequel returns bitter Dolph Lundgren's Ivan Drago to match his vicious son against swaggering new boxing star Michael B Jordan. Redemptive storyline features unsurprising structure, yet retains enjoyable intensity with dependably grizzled Sylvester Stallone.

Hit Man (2023) Darkly humorous thriller allows unremarkable professor Glen Powell to pose undercover as hitman for New Orleans police until sympathy for vulnerable Adria Arjona sends him into noirish descent. Themes of identity and character swirl amid sexy suspense and broad laughs.

Les Innocentes (The Innocents) (2016) Austere, sensitive treatment of dark true-life World War II drama, as Red Cross doctor Lou de Laâge tries to help pregnant Polish nuns, raped by Russian soldiers. Sympathetically detailed characters deal with strong spiritual and ethical themes.

The Weekend Away (2022) Caught up in increasingly unwieldy plot machinations and twists, Leighton Meester proves a committed presence, progressing from jittery tension when old friend goes missing in Croatia to determined personal intensity. Energetic sheen for enjoyable nonsense.

Das dunkle Paradies (Troubled Waters) (2019) Even as she deals with personal commitment to girlfriend and coming out to family, edgy Stefanie Reinsperger investigates prostitute's murder at high end hotel and revelations of political corruption. Stylish visuals yet odd rhythms and tone undermine cohesive tension.
