Predator 2 (1990) Raucous, scrappy sci-fi thriller sees anarchic Los Angeles streets as hunting ground for violent alien while defiant detective Danny Glover and team defy orders to chase danger. Flimsy narrative framework and confused action means limited moments of messy, pulpy fun.

Summer Of 69 (2025) Engagingly awkward Sam Morelos decides to seduce fellow high school senior by learning sexual confidence from stripper Chloe Fineman, who needs the money to save club. Innocently raunchy, predictability and choppy staging doesn't stifle general appeal and winning conclusion.

Alien 3 (1992) Wallowing in narrative cruelty, toughened survivor Sigourney Weaver is sent crash landing on hostile planet where savage, religious prisoners operate industrial plant, unknowing brutal creature has come with her. Splashes of violence amid grim, uncompromising visuals conjure bleak futility.

Alien Resurrection (1997) Solid genre gloss swirls elements from previous installments as future scientists clone enhanced Sigourney Weaver in order to breed queen creature and mutant offspring for military advancement with unsurprisingly deadly results. Pleasingly cynical lead and efficiently tooled thrills yet approach lacks distinction.

Boston Strangler (2023) Quietly evocative study of persevering journalists Keira Knightly and Carrie Coon feeds on prejudice and corruption as they struggle with authorities to find truth behind serial killings of women. Polished thematic and character strength enhances true life drama.

The Omen (1976) Gritty, immediate approach and jagged pacing builds enjoyably uneasy atmosphere as practical American ambassador Gregory Peck comes to realize son adopted from Rome hospital may be the antichrist. Punctuated with effective bouts of horror and unnerving, dominant Jerry Goldsmith score.

The Running Man (2025) Generally entertaining chase thriller keeps fanciful action straight with quick tempered Glen Powell in dystopian future TV show to earn enough for family future if he can survive assassins. Fumbles satiric bite and cohesive worldview to elevate beyond genre surface.

Malaya (1949) Plain wartime drama accentuates insular character rather than more expansive action as reluctant patriot James Stewart devises US government sponsored plan to steal needed rubber from Japanese control. Cynical Spencer Tracy and dissolute Sydney Greenstreet provide knowing skill and savage principles.

The Mountain Road (1960) Robustly staged, bleakly resolved war drama sees conflicted James Stewart blowing bridges and fuel dumps in 1944 China to slow advance of Japanese forces while retreating with frayed unit and local widow Lisa Lu. Clash of cultures and desperation leads to fiercely messy retribution.
