Bridget Jones Mad About The Boy (2025) Infused with melancholic sense of loss, Renée Zellweger provides a winning appeal to the joys and regrets of single motherhood while forging new romantic beginnings with youthful Leo Woodall and firm Chiwetel Ejiofor. Astute blend of broad comedy and potent emotion.

Mary And Max (2009) Gorgeously detailed, unusual and unlikely friendship between lonely Australian girl and isolated, autistic New York middle-aged man via accidental letters and packages is drily eccentric as well as frequently poignant. Story tends to drift, yet visual inventiveness and Barry Humphries' mordant narrator deliver fresh humour.

Enchanted (2007) Driven by tuneful song score and Amy Adams' effortlessly optimistic princess, giddy tone manages to both make fun of and celebrate Disney adaptations as Susan Sarandon's evil queen sends innocent characters from animated kingdom to reality of contemporary New York. Colorful energy shines through romance and comedy, aptly earning happy endings.

Disenchanted (2022) Fifteen years of frustrated urban happy ever after sees sunnily genuine princess Amy Adams chase new suburban family dream only to face controlling Maya Rudolph and threat of magical power corrupting her into evil stepmother. Despite genial approach and winning lead, potential of continuing story lacks fresh charm and wit.

Hellraiser (1987) Suffused with cold dread, desire and death conflated as glimmering puzzle box conjures cruel, demonic Cenobites who celebrate pleasures of pain. Flimsy plotting allows ethical Ashley Laurence to expose bloody set pieces, enhanced by Christopher Young's darkly elegant score.

KPop Demon Hunters (2025) Vivid, breezy animation aligns with snappy humor and infectious songs as superstar girl group Huntr/x sell out stadiums while combating demons to save fans. Evil influence of rival boy band fuels dramatics and social asides with fun characterization rounding out bright package.

Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro) (1988) Celebration of family bonds and power of imagination sees two young sisters move to country to be nearer ailing mother and discover magical creatures in the woods. Benignly rendered visuals aid keenly observed sense of casual humour and wonder.
