The Importance Of Being Earnest (1952) Elegantly designed, deftly staged, beguiling wordplay is allowed to breathe as Joan Greenwood and Dorothy Tutin dance through the social etiquette of romance with Michael Redgrave and Michael Denison. Defining cast highlighted by Edith Evans.

The Naked Truth (1957) Amusingly dark blackmail tale features sneering Dennis Price threatening series of stalwart British stars with embarrassing revelations. Social satire remains muffled, broader comedy with Terry-Thomas, Peter Sellers and Peggy Mount more successful.

Where No Vultures Fly (1951)Attractive location visuals compensate for unadventurous staging with principled Anthony Steel determined to establish African animal reserve and prevent colonial ivory traders. Wife Dinah Sheridan provides stoic support. Animals add vivid colour.

The Company Of Wolves (1984) Striking, seductive visuals tell dreams within dreams, story fragments that never quite resolve or cohere yet linger menacingly. Blunt granny Angela Lansbury recounts horrific fairy tales to Sarah Patterson, bursting with symbolism and bold Gothic design.

It's Love Again (1936) To find fame, spirited, aspiring chorus girl Jessie Matthews poses as fictional adventurer Mrs Smythe Smythe created by journalist Robert Young to fill gossip pages. Flimsy plot is framework to highlight star appeal, allowing dance and song to breathe.
