Mother/Android (2021) Bracing open posits future when android workers malfunction to provoke survival battle for humans, including pregnant Chloë Grace Moretz. Committed lead and solid production aims for emotion yet lacks background context and development beyond the functional.

Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny (2023) Melancholy air of retired Harrison Ford pervades return to adventure which features accomplished action set pieces and forced visuals while missing real vitality. Cluttered storyline centers on ancient time travel device, reaching for sentiment that never comes into focus.

Boy On A Dolphin (1957) From prologue establishing Greek Islands, richly realized visuals dominate ambling story of hunt for titular antiquity, as enthusiastic diver Sophia Loren is caught between principled Alan Ladd and conniving Clifton Webb. Lush Hugo Friedhofer score stands out.

Pin Up Girl (1944) Colorfully mounted dance (and roller skate) numbers are paired with tuneful if unremarkable songs as sprightly USO entertainer Betty Grable can't help accepting marriage proposals until she falls for war hero John Harvey. Mildly comic and enjoyably forgettable.

Une rencontre (Quantum Love) (2014) Seductive visuals luxuriate in hungry attraction between successful, divorced author Sophie Marceau and esteemed, married lawyer François Cluzet. Presented in slight, dreamy story strands, loose appeal relies on  harmony of amiable leads.

Advise & Consent (1962) Plainly framed, unhurried drama revels in deceit and manipulation around hearings for peaceable Henry Fonda to be confirmed Secretary Of State. Formidable cast includes devious Charles Laughton and prudent Walter Pidgeon, highlighting darkness of political polemics.

Beneath The 12-Mile Reef (1953) Minor Floridian melodrama sees love between arrogant Robert Wagner and rebellious Terry Moore threatened by their rival sponge-diving families. Widescreen visuals afford enticing gloss and Bernard Herrmann is transcending, though passions and underwater danger never rise beyond simmering.
