Leave No Trace (2018) Told with plain, unfiltered integrity, life on fringes of society catches up with traumatized veteran Ben Foster who raises teen daughter Thomasin McKenzie in wilds. Centered on natural, affecting leads, situation remains intriguing rather than urgent, drifting to moving conclusion.
The Luck Of The Irish (1948) Light comedy follows career minded Tyrone Power's encounter with sunny Anne Baxter and cunning leprechaun Cecil Kellaway who follow him to New York, and provoke a questioning of political and financial priorities. Coasting on appealing leads provides easy engagement, if little imagination.
Ur spår (Off Track) (2022) Struggling Katia Winter, on verge of losing child custody, is forced to move in with pedantic brother Fredrik Hallgren and finds redemptive purpose in long distance ski race. Amiable, plainly drawn characters deal with stress and personal flaws in smooth package that plays on light drama and appealing comedy.
Ute och cyklar (Off Track 2) (2025) Wary Katia Winter faces commitment issues while exacting brother Fredrik Hallgren suffers marital tension with restless Rakel Wärmländer as they prepare for all day lakeside cycling race. Slavish, flat adherence to tone and character arcs from previous story provides diminishing returns.
Strul (Trouble) (2024) Agreeable if uneven comic spin keeps action tempo brisk, aided considerably by energetic charm of mild Filip Berg, electronics salesman who inadvertently escapes prison to unravel police corruption and prove his innocence of murder. Genial cop Amy Deasismont contributes to silliness.
Napad (Justice) (2024) Textured with gritty visuals, oppressive atmosphere and murky politics of post-communist 1990s Poland informs disgraced Olaf Lubaszenko's return to investigate vicious bank robbery, reverberations of past affecting newer officer Wiktoria Gorodecka as well as desperate thief Jedrzej Hycnar. Measured telling conjures engrossing drama.
La viuda negra (A Widow's Game) (2025) Broken into segments that shift to perspective of different protagonists, diligent Carmen Machi's investigation into murder becomes study of consuming Ivana Baquero's designs on killing husband. Smooth production keeps pace tight, yet character definition remains fuzzy and saps tension.
The Assessment (2024) Off-kilter atmosphere created by intrusive visuals and distinct soundtrack maintains uncomfortable, controlling future as hopeful scientists Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel face suitability test as future parents by unforgiving Alicia Vikander. Mordant humor and tense edge, even if dry conclusion feels too neat.
Mensaje en una botella (Message In A Bottle) (2025) Spirited time altering comedy benefits from lively, regretful Luisana Lopilato who discovers she can send notes to past via late father's wine bottles. Multiple timelines naturally cause escalating chaos, with hugely enjoyable narrative and character tension leading to emotional resolve.
Nuestros Tiempos (Our Times) (2025) Energetic setup establishes intuitive Lucero and assertive Benny Ibarra as scientists inadvertently time traveling from staid 1966 to confounding 2025. Social and sexual contrast intrigues, yet fuzzy characters, clumsy staging and strained humour blunts effect.
