The Long Walk (2025) Grimly compelling dystopian drama sends group of teens out to see who will claim fortune by continuing longest on forever roads or shot down by military escort. Brutal, singular focus strips away background, game cast infusing types with emotion, before revenge and elusive resolve.
Amber Alert (2025) Mildly diverting thriller features clean narrative line as child goes missing and passenger Hayden Panettiere persuades rideshare driver Tyler James Williams that car ahead could be abductor. Lacks adrenaline shifts and mounting threat, though anchored by effectively reasoned leads.
Majo no takkyûbin (Kiki's Delivery Service) (1989) Lightly comic rite of passage adventure sees 13 year old witch follow tradition to leave home with skeptical cat and inadvertently establish herself as flying courier. Crisis of magical belief leads to exciting finale; colorful detail and generous approach conjures involving characters.
My Secret Santa (2025) After losing job adds to money stress and looking to pay for teen daughter's snowboarding class, obstinate Alexandra Breckenridge creates male disguise for ski resort work while falling for wealthy, unfocused Ryan Eggold. Blandly lethargic production and expected wish-fulfillment plotting.
The Beach House (2019) Contained, generally gripping eco horror evolves gradually with strained young couple Liana Liberato and Noah Le Gros waking in vacation home to discover nature contamination producing progressively grisly body invasion. Intimate intensity blends well with apocalyptic theme.
Fort Apache (1948) Framed with artistry, played with equal parts ferocious action and broad comedy, and pierced with lost heroism, prejudiced, vengeful Henry Fonda leads cavalry to slaughter, while corruption is consumed by history. Shirley Temple provides romance, John Wayne preserves army stoicism.
Champagne Problems (2025) Appealingly unaffected Minka Kelly, sent by cutthroat investors to close deal in France, inadvertently finds ambition conflicts with romantic spark for drifting Tom Wozniczka, heir to prospective acquisition. Attractive locations and leads carry labored comedy and customary character conflicts.
