The Green Knight (2021) Rendered with poetic grit, a literal and mystical journey for willful knight Dev Patel who goes to meet his fate and future, tempted and abused by conflicts and visions. While moral ambiguity swirls and intent remains opaque, rigorous visuals are infused with broken heroism.

Elf (2003) Striking happy balance between broad silliness and Christmas sentimentality, unaffected Will Ferrell is the adopted titular character leaving North Pole to reunite with unaware father James Caan. Fine cast embrace humor and life lessons, while practical Zooey Deschanel inspires singing belief.

Night Always Comes (2025) Grungy genre thriller looks to straddle ticking clock setup with social reflection as impoverished Vanessa Kirby desperately raises enough cash to prevent eviction from family home. Dynamic lead unwraps tarnished character, yet increasing danger never grips and squeezed dramatic structure unravels.

French Kiss (1995) Attractively set comic complications elevated by equally appealing cast as restrained Meg Ryan flies to France to break errant fiancé Timothy Hutton's affair only to find culture clash and eventual romance with sly local thief Kevin Kline. Life lessons and hopes revealed with unhurried polish.

Sleepless In Seattle (1993) Irresistibly contrived structure leans on affection for lost souls Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, separated by a continent but drawn together by love's destiny. As much a celebration of engrained romantic concepts as endearingly light comedy that secures undeniable emotional pull.

The Faculty (1998) Blunt assembly of sci-fi horror thrills makes for brightly paced high school adventure as solid cast of archetypal students uncover deadly alien invasion is replacing teachers and threatening total domination. Enjoyably trading on well-practiced constructs and fun alien creature effects.

Ginger Snaps (2000) Grungy, bloody thrills and mordant, broadly played laughs as Katherine Isabelle's first period coincides with animal attack that provokes body-horror werewolf transformation. Relationship with increasingly desperate sister Emily Perkins accentuates spiky female bonds and transformative power.
