Los creyentes (The Truthers) (2026) Potent mix of personal trauma and social paranoia sees drifting Stéphanie Magnin return home after mother's death, with growing suspicions of conflicted father José Coronado's conspiracy theories. Plain style misses character detail, stranded between topical relevance and genre thrills.
Humint (2026) Sleek visuals and fluid action sees principled South Korean agent Zo In-sung crossing with intense North Korean counterpart Park Jeong-min in Russian port as focus falls on increasingly desperate informant Shin Se-kyung. Emphasising damaged emotions provides substance to crunching violence.
Paradise (2023) Persuasively rendered near future sees privileged minority purchase youth from the poor with Kostja Ullmann resorting to kidnapping company boss when debt forces wife Marlene Tanczik to lose forty years and become Corinna Kirchhoff. Robust style fades with narrative shifts though resolution is coldly effective.
Written On The Wind (1956) Emphatic visuals ripe with lush colors and cruel emotion as Lauren Bacall is ensnared by fevered desires of dysfunctional oil family wealth, featuring repressed Rock Hudson, impotent Robert Stack and wild Dorothy Malone. Exciting, lurid melodrama with wickedly knowing humor.
The Goonies (1985) Spirited adventure relies on young cast's excited energy and blitz of action pratfalls as misfit teens search for mythical pirate treasure to save homes from development while chased by slapstick criminals. Exhaustingly pitched with little narrative tension, yet messy humor endears.
In The Mouth Of Madness (1993) Smooth, deliberate visuals send cynical insurance investigator Sam Neill on search for missing horror novelist Jürgen Prochnow whose literary output is sending people violently insane. Generous tips to genre precedents though can't sustain potent opening stretch.
The Andromeda Strain (1971) Dry tension seeps through unfussy visuals, highlighting ultimately fragile technological defense as under pressure scientists race to prevent deadly outbreak from minute alien organism in remote Arizona. Though plotting tends to drift, detail builds edge to final act ticking clock.
