Encounter (2021) Initially framed as sci-fi invasion thriller, edgy ex-marine Riz Ahmed rescues young sons from estranged wife and fights off infected strangers on race to safety, until narrative wrench reveals moody intensity is more to do with mental break. Persuasively staged, yet domestic drama is less effective.

13 Rue Madeleine (1947) Solid wartime thrills framed by portentous voice over that proclaims fact-based background of hardened James Cagney's spy training, before following undercover mission to France in days leading up to Allied invasion. Facing cold double-agent Richard Conte, studied tension builds to heroic sacrifice.

The Lost Moment (1947) With atmosphere drenched by doomed Gothic romance, devious publisher Robert Cummings rents room in aged Agnes Moorehead's Venetian mansion, intent of finding lost love letters written to her by famed poet. Captivating melodrama sees staid Susan Hayward entranced by ghosts of past.

Soldier Of Fortune (1955) Solid production benefits from expansive Hong Kong visuals and engaging leads, as resolute Susan Hayward arrives to find missing photographer husband, getting cynical Clark Gable involved in rescuing him from China. Unfortunately, edgy geopolitics and seedy local conflict unravel with romantic melodrama.

Garden Of Evil (1954) Enveloping Bernard Herrmann score and striking location visuals elevate character and action dynamics as gritty Susan Hayward hires mercenary Gary Cooper, Richard Widmark and Cameron Mitchell to rescue husband from gold mine in hostile Apache territory. Corrupt desires with unsurprising development.

World War Z (2013) Energetically spun adventure plunges UN investigator Brad Pitt and family into chaos of zombie apocalypse before sending him on whiplash, globetrotting search for solution. Concentration on set piece thrills rather than bloody horrors remains breathless if anonymously uneven.

Wolf Man (2025) After tense childhood prolog establishes lycanthropic threat, conflicted Christopher Abbott returns home years later with reluctant wife Julia Garner and daughter to claim Oregon inheritance, only to be attacked and face horrific transformation. Confined narrative produces patchy thrills and misses inherent tragedy.

På villspor (The Wrong Track) (2025) Drifting Ada Eide, threatened with losing custody of daughter, is forced by responsible brother Trong Fausa to train for fifty-four km skiing race and ends up embracing challenge. Nothing unexpected yet appealing cast inform rounded characters with natural humour and humane drama.

Someone Great (2019) After bust up with longtime boyfriend and on eve on leaving New York for new job, Gina Rodriguez teams up with best friends Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise for one last wild city night. Standard comic and dramatic story beats resolve with winning celebration of friendship.
