Timecop (1994) Smoky visuals provide wide-screen background for time travel confusion and excuse for diligent cop Jean-Claude Van Damme to demonstrate martial arts skills. Snarling politician Ron Silver and winsome Mia Sara contributions to enjoyably disposable sci-fi nonsense.

Dzien Matki (Mother's Day) (2023) Scratchy aesthetic punches home bouts of moody stares, grim characters and violent set pieces as former agent Agnieszka Grochowska hunts down abductors of son she gave up. Dark humour and urban angst never quite cohere with stylized action thrills.

Christy (2025) Sydney Sweeney reaches for messy vulnerability, grit, and impulsive hopes of true-life, barrier-breaking female boxer, finding release in the ring from mental and physical abuse of family and manipulative trainer-husband Ben Foster. Unsure tone, intrusive score and flat pacing undermine effectiveness.

Superman (1978) Burnished visuals conjure expansive, archetypal comic-book origin story, as destruction of home planet sees childhood in rural Smallville before revelation in Metropolis of Christopher Reeve's principled superhero and clumsy alter-ego reporter. Smart balance of action and humor with disarming Margot Kidder and snarling villain Gene Hackman.

Forty Guns (1957) Vigorous, controlled technique informs standard western of frontier justice as former gunslinger Barry Sullivan arrives in Tombstone and faces steely grip of landowner Barbara Stanwyck. Narrative melodramatics allow darker hues of violence and changing society to weave compelling grip.

American Sweatshop (2025) Contemporary drama centers on psychology of social media moderators dealing with extreme content, as increasingly intense Lili Reinhart pursues culpability of anonymous participants in violent online material. Patchy approach held together by lead's persuasive unraveling.

The Last House (2026) Solidly realized sci-fi thriller traps Greta Lee, Wagner Moura and their two children in abruptly sealed-off suburban home, dealing with gradually deteriorating physical and psychological consequences. Social and emotional resonance undone when eventual monsters are revealed.
