Disposable romantic beats and social concerns land with leaden effect.
The Whisper Man (2026) Intriguing cast features present detective Michelle Monaghan facing child abduction case with shades of old investigation by ex-cop Robert De Niro, made personal when his estranged son Adam Scott's boy becomes next victim. Diminishing interest not helped by dingy visuals and subdued soundtrack.
Anniversary (2025) Committed performances from convincing cast as Phoebe Dynevor crashes Diane Lane and Kyle Chandler's entitled family life with populist dream of reclaimed America, turning society into repressive state. Always intriguing yet blurred politics blunts impact and misses dark humor.
Project Hail Mary (2025) Smooth mix of end of world drama, lightly absurdist humor and sci-fi grandeur sends reluctant Ryan Gosling into space where he finds help from alien rock. Though few surprises, heartfelt melodrama is elevated by appealing lead, nimble staging and upfront Daniel Pemberton score.
