Pretty Lethal (2026) Enticing premise sends five young LA-based ballerinas to prestigious Hungarian dance showcase only to isolate them at remote gothic inn where they need athletic skills to survive violent gangsters. Energetic final action choreography undermined by unsure tone and flat development.

The Enemy Below (1957) Solidly told World War II thriller sees Robert Mitchum's American destroyer in deadly tactical duel with Curt Jürgens' German U-boat in South Atlantic, sympathetic view on both sides accentuating human drama. Plain approach gradually builds suspense with satisfyingly balanced resolution.

Leftenan Adnan (Lieutenant Adnan) (2000) Robustly produced biopic provides family intimacy and officer heroics as titular leader defends against Japanese invasion of Malaya during World War II. Simplified politics of awakening nationalism set against uneven intensity of some suitably scaled battle action.

13 Bom di Jakarta (13 Bombs) (2023) Propulsive thriller establishes solid mix of violent action and social concern as unwavering Rio Dewanto unleashes series of bombs across Jakarta with plan to bring down financial systems and avenge inequality. Even if it flags in last act, Putri Ayudya proves a committed counterintelligence agent and end is suitably uneasy.

Pengabdi Setan (Satan's Slaves) (2017) Conjuring slow burn unease with shadowy imagery accentuates pleasingly effective scares as mother of a close, struggling family returns from the dead and daughter Tara Basro discovers devil cult are after the children. Though intensity unravels for showdown, character detail informs adeptly assembled suspense.

The Experts (2024) Engagingly paced heist thriller trades on family heart as siblings are blackmailed out of retirement to steal impossibly protected jewel from new crime boss. Despite reliance on ideas and structure with reminders of previous screen stories, energetic cast and solid if blunt staging keep action, back story, and twists spinning.

Dopamin (2025) Immediately infused with gritty, fractious atmosphere, struggling couple Shenina Cinnamon and Angga Yunanda face suitcase full of cash when stranger dies in guest bedroom. As temptation leads to momentary relief and inevitable violence, intense leads enhance tight, thematically strong narrative twists.
